Macaroni Kid Review: Wegmans Delivery by Instacart

This is a busy time of year, between celebrating holidays, shopping and preparing for all of the holiday celebrations, while also tending to the daily grind, Wegmans has found a way to ease one weekly stressor:  grocery shopping.  

I was intrigued to try Wegman’s Delivery by Instacart; I’m typically a picky shopper.  I need to compare each item, I like to use my coupons and loyalty card, and I like to save on my trips.  This time of year, though, it’s especially stressful to try and schedule the time to go shopping.  I decided to try Wegmans Delivery by Instacart  on a Thursday in preparation for a packed weekend that was also forecasting snow.  

The process was simple.  I had my meals planned, my list prepped, and was ready to go.  The search function made it easy to find the items I wanted quickly.  There were digital coupons attached to some of the items I was shopping for, while also taking advantage of deals, such as $0.99 baking items, essential for this time of year.  Linking my Wegmans shopper club card added to the savings by getting the lowest prices.  


What was great about the shopping experience was not only the ease of use, but the ability to leave notes for the shopper.  For example, when selecting bananas, I asked that the shopper choose bananas that were more green than yellow to ensure they would last longer.  The avocados I asked to be not yet ripe as I wasn’t planning to use them right away.

Prior to finalizing the order, I was able to select my delivery time.  I requested a delivery between 5:00-6:00 pm.  Upon placing the order, I was notified within minutes that my shopper had just started shopping.  Throughout the shopping experience, I received two notifications of items for replacement due to the requested item being out of stock.  The notification provided a link that I was able to review and either approve or select an alternate item as replacement.  One item I agreed with the suggested replacement, while the other item I offered an alternate suggestion.  When the shopper was finished shopping, I received another notification with an estimated delivery time, and my shopper arrived right on time!



The products were delivered appropriately sorted:  cold items were bagged together and were delivered in an insulated bag that kept the items at an appropriate temperature. Fragile items were bagged separately from bulkier items, produce was bagged together, and heavier items were double bagged.  Upon further examination, the items arrived exactly as I had asked; the bananas and avocados were exactly the ripeness I had asked for, and were also free from blemishes. The shopper was helpful, courteous and professional, both throughout the shopping experience and upon delivery.

Overall, I found that using the Wegmans Delivery by Instacart to be both a timesaver and a sanity saver.  I will most definitely be using this service again for future shopping needs.  Interested in trying it?  Here’s a code for you to use: https://inst.cr/t/xyCd7dQzA
