Cirque Du Soleil Presents: Amaluna!

Fun For the Whole Family!

August 9, 2019

Last night, I got to check off one of my bucket list items- seeing a Cirque du Soleil performance.  I had the opportunity once in Las Vegas, but decided to be a good daughter and go to Jersey Boys with my mother (great show, but none of the high flying acrobatics I was hoping for).  So you could imagine my excitement when I found out Cirque du Soleil was coming right here to Oaks, PA!  What I didn't initially realize was this performance, Amalunais a family friendly show! Which meant, in addition to crossing off a bucket list item, I didn't need to find a babysitter- double win!

To say I was excited would be an understatement, and let me tell you, this show did not disappoint.  This show was PACKED with entertainment.  We're talking uni cyclists, juggling, ariel artists, comedic performances, more acrobats than I could count, and live music-- that's right, if off the charts acrobatics wasn't enough, there was a vocalists, a cellist, and guitarists absolutely killing it to provide musical accompaniment to the performances.

Amaluna is the coming of age story of Miranda, Queen Prospera's daughter & her epic journey to love with a castaway.  The story is told beautifully, it may be held in the Expo Center parking lot, but the stage, lighting, props, and sound were all theatre quality transporting you to another world. While this was a love story, the show is indeed family friendly and appropriate for kids.  Adults will understand the symbolism of each new routine and kids will enjoy the performances with wide-eyed amazement.  After the show, my 5 year old nephew asked if we could come back again in the morning, so I guess the 2.5 hour long show wasn't too long for little ones!  I'll admit, I was a little nervous bringing the kids.  I didn't know if it would be too mature or over the top, but I'm so happy they were there.  I don't think my daughter blinked until intermission except to exclaim "she's flying, momma!" It's an experience I'm sure we'll be talking about in my house for weeks to come.

If you're anything like me and have been wanting to see a Cirque du Soleil performance, but just haven't had the opportunity- don't let this one slip by!  It's not every day shows of this caliber turn up in your backyard, but the big top is packing up and heading to Canada after August 25th!  If it wasn't obvious, I'm giving this show two thumbs way up in the air and hope you get a chance to snag tickets and enjoy with (or without) the kids!
