5 Reasons To Use A Travel Agent For Your Next Trip

Insider Info From A Local Mom and LBAC Agent!

October 25, 2019

Summer just ended and I hope you all had a chance to get away for at least a day or two. As the weather turns colder my mind starts wandering to warmer climates; if you're dreaming of your next vacation too, you should consider using a travel agent. Here are five reasons why:

1). It Often Doesn't Cost Anything

Particularly if you're looking at a Disney package, these are the same across the board. A common misconception is you'll get a better price booking direct or through a larger third party site, but Disney, hotels, and airlines pay the agent, not you, so the cost of the trip is often the same as if you booked it yourself.

2). Time is $$

You're busy.  So spending hours scouring the web for the perfect trip, activities, flights, ground transportation, and hotel isn't appealing; in fact it's costly.  Add to that the additional time many will spend looking up rates, price comparing, then clearing their internet search history of cookies to ensure it really is the best price, then stalking rates until they drop.... it's exhausting. If you do incur fees for using an agent it will most likely be for itinerary building.  But here's the thing, it will take an agent significantly less time than you because it's literally her job.  Agents are already familiar with how and when to get the best rates, which hotels will fit your family's needs, and what activities will keep your kids entertained.  The money you may pay will be well worth it considering the expertise the agent brings along with the hours of time (and stress!) you'll save.

3). Insider Info and Perks

Like I said, travel agents are professionals, this is what they do.  A good agent will give you a heads up on when to book at top destinations based on when they run annual deals, what time of year will have the best weather or least crowds. She can let you know what the up and coming "it" destinations are so you can book now before the price triples when it catches on.  She will suggest the best restaurants on site to help you avoid the dreaded tourist traps, set you up with side trips and excursions off the beaten path, and of course knows how to get the best hotel and flight rates helping you save money right off the top.  Additionally, agents often have access to perks such as room upgrades, group rates, and promotions not available to the general public.

4). Trip Inspiration and Destination Advice

Sometimes, the trip to see on TV looks awesome, but isn't the right fit for your family.  An agent will sit down with you and find out what your family is looking for and help steer you to the destination perfect for you.  Maybe you go to a favorite spot every year, but want to try something new while there- an agent can help you find the perfect day trip to shake it up.  Not sure what you want? Don't even know where to begin?  Talk to an experienced travel agent who can help with trip inspiration and planning.   Agents also offer assistance with special requirements for a trip.  Planning a destination wedding (brides, please don't take on that added stress alone!)? Searching for an LGBTQ+ friendly vacation? Babymoon? Multi-family vacation?  Need to make sure all arrangements are handicap accessible? Professional agents will make trip planning fun.

5). Personalized Service Before, During, and After Your Trip

Personalized attention is always appreciated, but especially for international travel, it really can't be overlooked.  Pre-trip planning can be daunting- passport requirements, visas, currency exchange, ensuring your credit card will work on arrival; agents will make sure you are prepared with no last minute panic attacks you forgot to complete a form.  While abroad your agent can offer 24/7 service, which may seem unnecessary,  but agents can help navigate issues related to lost luggage, sudden illness, lost passport, flight cancellations and so much more so you can get home as quickly and efficiently as possible.  When you return your agent is available to tie up any lose ends and, most importantly, hear all about your trip so you can start planning your next vacation!
