Capturing Motherhood

The simple moments make your world.

By Catherine Prendergast- CP Photogrphy May 8, 2020

Before Covid19, I was holding a series called Motherhood. In these sessions I wanted to capture the

everyday, but such meaningful parts between mother and child(ren). We are constantly taking

photographs of our children in those moments, but we, the mother, are never in the frame with them.

Whether it be baking cookies, reading books and snuggling or blowing bubbles in the back yard, I want

my kids to be able to look back and see us doing those things together; as I’m sure many of you do also.

Unfortunately, due to the current situations I had to postpone all sessions. However, I’d love to

challenge you all to take your own Motherhood sessions during this interesting season. I will even edit

your images for you (please contact me at prendergastphotography@yahoo.com for more information).

I’d love to offer you some inspiration for these images.

1. Outside picnic – throw down a blanket in the backyard, serve up a yummy treat to share such as

cupcakes, donuts or ice cream and savor it together.

2. Snuggle time – pile onto your couch and bed and snuggle in close. Have a tickle or pillow fight to

get some genuine laughs and smiles captured.

3. Take a walk – whether it be on a trail or around your neighborhood enjoy that fresh air

together. You could even add bikes or scooters. Take a break on the curb or a park bench.

4. Baking – maybe you and the kids enjoy making cookies together, or maybe cooking a meal.

What Mom doesn’t want to remember their child scraping out the mixing bowl.

5. Tradition – do you and your child have something that is special between you? Is it reading a

favorite book? Maybe dancing to a particular song? If so, capture it!

Whatever it is that you and your littles enjoy doing together; grab your camera, set that self timer, or

have someone press the button for you, and snap away!
