It's just about time to book holiday photo sessions. If your family is anything like mine it looks like this: mom cannot wait for beautiful family photos to update our frames, dad is begrudgingly participating, and the kids will smile- if bribed with chocolate. So, when I mentioned holiday photos to my husband last week, I caught a slight eye roll with a "can we at least do that Cool Christmas thing with the food and crafts again"? Me: "You mean Cool Yule?" Hubs: "Yeah. That was it, that was kind of fun."
Kind. Of. Fun. From my "willing to make his wife happy, but not happy about any of these pictures, let's get this over with" husband. Don't get me wrong, he's not a stick in the mud. It's just that family photo sessions are not his thing; between the outfits and finding the right background, the posing and the whining children. All to just get back in the car with the kids asking where their promised chocolate is twenty minutes later- I can kind of see his point. So when I found Cool Yule a few years ago, I was thrilled.
Tara at Silver Orchid Photography often jokes that dads are her "key demographic". She's figured out the secret sauce to get us moms those adorable photos while keeping everyone else happy. Because Cool Yule is more than just a mini holiday session, it's a Christmas experience. When you arrive you walk into a world of holiday cheer with music, decorations, refreshments, activities and crafts for the kids, and even a station to write a letter to Santa! When it's your turn, the crew will bring you to the set of your choice, snap away for 5-10 minutes, and then you're free to go (or return to the festivities!).
