Choosing a Newborn Photographer? Why It's Important To Be Choosey

APNPI photographers are specially trained and certified for the safety of newborns.

November 5, 2021

Sweet little fingers, curled up baby toes- when it comes to newborns every detail is precious and new parents want to make sure they are perfectly captured.  Which is why it can be hard to choose a photographer to capture these "they'll never be this little again" moments.

You want to find someone who's style matches yours, who has photography experience, and of course, fits your budget.  However, all new parents know- safety is key.  Unlike many family photos where you gather in from of the fall foliage for a few shots, newborn photography is meticulous.  From the temperature of the room, the props used, calming baby down, and positioning- it takes a particular set of skills and practice to ensure the highest level of safety.

While there are no formal safety regulations for newborn photography, there is one organization, Accredited Professional Newborn Photographers International (APNPI) that offers safety training and best practices for photographers. For example, did you know many of the most popular newborn poses, such as the "froggy" (head propped up on folded fists) should actually be done in two frames and then edited together?  Certified photographers have the skills both behind the camera and in the editing screen to deliver beautiful photos- safely.

Pottstown photographer, Amy Paulhamus has a passion for family photographers, especially expectant mommas and cute as a button newborns.  Which is why Moments by Amy is one of the first and only APNPI certified newborn photographers in our area! At her in-home studio Amy creates a cozy atmosphere and then will expertly deliver those newborn family photos you've been craving. Just check out her newborn portfolio!

Moments by Amy is eager to capture your baby's first days and is now booking for 2022 babies.  Amy's also a mom and understands costs add up.  Book a maternity and newborn together and save $175! Don't just take our word for it, here's what one local mother had to say:

"We had a great experience for our newborn pictures of our 2 week old. Amy was gentle with our baby when changing wraps and always supporting her head. She was very flexible as plans changed for the photo shoot with our 21 month old falling asleep in the car. We’re very happy with the final product and would recommend Amy to others. Thanks for capturing our little one’s sweet precious newborn moments!"
