Fall Photo Magic -Choosing the Outfits and Setting the Scene

Capture the best of the season with Silver Orchid!

August 19, 2022

The kids are getting ready to head back to school and before we know it, it will be sweater weather.  As much as I hate to see summer end, I do have to admit, fall has it's charms.  Fall coffee flavors, crisp air, and of course the beautiful fall foliage we're lucky to have here in PA.  It's the perfect time to grab the family, put on coordinating outfits (ignore the eye rolls from your partner), and snap a few photos to celebrate the season.   Our friends at Silver Orchid have lined up three wonderful options for fall minis this year.  Whether your family is into classic fall foliage photos (who isn't?!), catching a cutie in the pumpkin patch, or a more rustic vibe with a vintage truck at the apple orchard- there's something for you!

Before wwe can get to the frames though, there are  two big decisions to be made- clothes and scenery. Family photos are an investment and you want to look your best, so it's no surprise choosing outfits and the perfect background can be a bit overwhelming for some of us.  Owner Tara is a pro at helping local families capture those frame worthy photos.  This season, she's sharing out her fall style guide to help you strike the perfect cord between casual and matchy- matchy for a coordinated family look that will be stunning in photos and look effortlessly chic. You, of course, want your photos to reflect your family and feel authentic.  Okay, maybe not 100% authentic, but a cleaned up, smiling for the camera, no sibling squabbles version. So, have fun when looking for outfits and choose a few pieces with a bit of interest and detail.

To help us out, here are a few tips from Tara:

  • Limit prints in clothing to one person (maybe two people if it’s a small print) and then base the rest of the outfits around that.
  • Find colors that work well with the print, ones that will accent the look.
  • Think comfort.
  • Keep your location, and how it relates to the clothing, in mind.
  • Think about how photos will look in your home.
  • Most Important “rule” — make sure the clothes bring out your individuality!

Outfits are taken care of- now onto setting the scene.  Luckily for us, Silver Orchid takes care of this one.  Three perfectly curated sets have been created for this year's fall minis.  All you have to do is pick which setting best fits your family, reserve a time, and let the professionals handle the rest.  First up is the pumpkin patch, which is just perfect for photos of the kids.  Let them run free to explore the field and pick a favorite!  The Little Blue Truck will be a part of this picturesque setting giving your pumpkin the perfect background.  Nothing says fall quite like a trip to the apple orchard!  This year, along with the natural setting of the orchard, the little red truck will be on hand to complete the vintage fall feel.  The final option is peak fall foliage mini sessions.  Gather the family (or extended family/pets!) and get those coveted, colorful shots.  Fall foliage photos are timeless and can be made into wonderful gifts for the holidays!  See below for session details and click to reserve your slot now.
