There is a brand-new school opening in Montgomery County this month. Celebree School of East Norriton will welcome children 6 weeks and up into their state of the art world of wonder this February. Celebree Schools pride themselves on offering a holistic curriculum. It's child centered- the whole child- from one month through school age the staff at Celebree work to meet your child where they're at, challenge them forward, and take into account the best way for them, personally, to get there. What does that translate to in the classroom? For infants, it's Daily Digital Reporting to make the transitions and routines from home to school seamless. It's one primary caregiver who will cradle and bond with your child and indiviudal check-ins with parents at drop off to make sure everyone is on the same page. As they grow it's a stimulating environment fill with activities and centers designed to engage students in purposeful play through hands on learning. Creating a safe and secure environment with differences in children are celebrated, learning is playful, friendships are forged, and true development, not just learning takes place. Preschoolers practice healthy eating habits and self-help skills along side the days of the week. It's understanding no two children are alike and creating space for those differences. At Celebree, students are guided using an instruction plan based on their learning style and preferences- not age and group readiness. Starting at age three, each student begins building an individual portfolio so parents and teachers can see cumulative work, assess progress, and make action plans based on the child's needs. In short, Celebree students are given premier care tailored specifically for them from the moment they walk (or are carried) through the door.
Holistic learning is based on the principle that there are 7 Domains of Learning. The curriculum at Celebree Schools is designed to help children grow in all seven areas. The seven domains are:
- Gross Motor Skills. Large muscle physcial development. From learning to sit to running across the playground and everything in-between!
- Fine Motor Skills. Integral to development. Hand eye coordination is developed from infancy.
- Language Skills. Even in the infant room this is practiced. Loving caregivers talking to babies helps them learn, but babies will also be taught basic ASL "more, food, etc." to communicate with the world around them. As kids grow they will learn more refined skills like speaking and early reading (phonics).
- Cognitive Development. Scientific thinking begins early. Of course, kids need to learn those pre-Kindergarten skills. They'll learn ABCs and 123s, even science, social studies, and math! But cognitive skills are much more than that. Beginning in the infant room babies learn cause and effect every time they throw a spoon or push a ball. Toddlers and preschoolers learn reasoning and other critical thinking concepts through hands on learning.
- Social/Emotional Development. This is a big one. Learning to share, empathize, and get a long with others is crucial for life.
- Self-help/Adaptive. As much as we love our babies, children need to learn to be independent. Holistic learning includes learning to dress ourselves, bathroom skills, communicating our feelings, and so many other "small" steps toward becoming school-ready.
- Moral/Values. Kindness, respect, telling the truth and more. Of course you're going to teach these at home. However, choosing a learning environment where these are reinforced is invaluable.
