Year After Year- Elmwood Delivers

Our 2023 Wild Lights Adventure

December 29, 2023

Like many of you, each year my family looks forward to going to see light displays during the holidays. Since the 2018 inaugural year, we've attended Elmwood Park Zoo's Wild Lights- it's a family favorite & I'm always eager to see what tweaks and improvements they make each year.

If you're familiar with Elmwood,  you'll know 2023 was a big year for the zoo. It was closed for a few months and is still under major renovation.  There's a new entrance, new animal friends, new parking lot and they're not done yet!  With all of the upgrades and rearranging already unveiled, I was excited to see how Wild Lights would be impacted.  I'm happy to report, Wild Lights was as wonderful as always- perhaps the best yet. They've added more light displays, kept fan favorites like the rainbow light tunnels, added character meet and greets, live entertainment and really leaned into what makes them unique- the animals!

What I believe sets Wild Lights apart from other light displays is that they've taken the time to make it a full experience.  There are other displays you can attend- and they're beautiful- but Elmwood taken the time to not only be beautiful, but entertaining

My family spent over 2 hours at Wild Lights. It was a cold night, but there was simply so much to do no one minded. Here's a list of everything available the night we attended.

-A million lights. Light tunnels, larger than life installations, strings along every corridor-you name it.

- Mickey & Minnie character meet and greet. Note: these vary depending on when you attend

- Lolly playing live kids music for a holiday jam session to Jingle Bells (entertainment varies by night)

-Light up music garden

-Carousel & train rides

-Animal encounters.  We met Pesto, the skunk.

-Card making for the animals

-Exploration learning stations on pelts, feathers, antlers and more

-Visits with Santa

-Animal sightings. While many were sleeping, we spied porcupines, jaguars, eagles,  alpacas, monkeys, reptiles, bats, Penny the alligator, birds, the red panda and more!

There's only a few chances to catch Wild Lights 2023 left- Saturday, Dec 30th is the last day! If you haven't been and are looking for some entertainment for your family this weekend, I highly encourage you to check it out! Tickets are on sale here.
